We’re reporting a potentially big policy shift from Sony that, if true, would keep future single-player PlayStation games off PC and locked to PlayStation hardware. Insider Gaming reports that the company quietly pivoted away from PC ports for its single-player narrative slate, and an insider has allegedly explained why.
What Was Reported
Per Insider Gaming, the outlet revealed on March 4 that Sony was no longer releasing single-player PlayStation exclusives on PC. That revelation was reportedly later confirmed, with the claim that future single-player PlayStation exclusives “won’t be available anywhere other than on PS5 and beyond.”
The explanation given to staff — as relayed by Jason Schreier on ResetEra — is threefold. During a townhall, Hermen Hulst allegedly told staff that their single-player narrative games will be PlayStation only, and he explained the decision with three reasons: they were inconsistent with their PC releases; they didn’t make enough money; and Sony wants to keep their IP aligned to their own platform. Schreier said he “confirmed this with two people who heard him say it,” and that there is no “case by case” approach.
