10 Childhood Video games on Nintendo Switch

There are so many games that have been revamped from the Millennials childhood for Nintendo Switch. The graphics may be different, but the game play is the same. For the nostalgic family-oriented, individuals, these games are for you. 

Kirby’s Adventure

Originally released in 1993, Kirby’s Adventure has been re-released 2019 through the online subscription for Nintendo Switch. It was originally in 2D but was converted to 3D in the new Nintendo Switch version. Welcome to the 21st century, Kirby. The game itself, Kirby’s Adventure, is a side-scrolling gaming platform where Kirby, a pink colored puffball character, goes through swallowing and spitting out its enemies to gain powers. These powers vary from being able to use a sword or even gaining the ability to use a laser and much more. 

Super Mario Kart

Super Mario Kart had originally released1992. Then in 2017 this iconic racing game was re-released as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Like Kiby’s Adventure, it was converted into the 3D model for the modern game players. The cool thing about this game franchise is that they made Mario and Luigi mini-RC racers that can be used in an offshoot of the original Super Mario Kart. These cars work for the MarioKart Live: Home Circuit. This is a game you build your own track in your home with the arrows provided letting the RC-racers race through your home through the track and on the screen. 

3D: Allstars with Super Mario Sunshine, Galaxy and 64

Super Mario Sunshine was originally released in 2002 with Super Mario Galaxy in 2007 & Super Mario 64 released as the earliest in 1996. It has since been re-released as 3D All-Stars with Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy & Super Mario 64 in 2020. All three games have been completely remastered to amazing 3D imagery. Super Mario Sunshine, Galaxy and 64 are all vastly different games but all have amazing game play. 

Super Mario Sunshine does share some aspects of gameplay with predecessor, Super Mario 64 but it introduces many new and exciting game play features as well. In Super Mario Sunshine, the gamer controls Mario as he tries to bring back the light to Isle Delfino by obtaining shine sprites. He does this to prove his innocence as another Mario, the imposter, painted and polluted the Isle while Mario was on vacation there. He must prove his innocence and help the people of the Isle bring back the light.

Super Mario Galaxy is a 3D game where the gamer plays as Mario to ultimately save Princess Peach and the universe itself from Bowser while collecting power stars along the way. 

Super Mario 64, the predecessor of the Mario games, was the first to feature the 3D gameplay. In the game, the gamer plays as Mario who is searching for power stars to ultimately rescue Princess Peach from Bowser after he stormed her castle and hid the castles protections behind several magical paintings. 

Link’s Awakening from The Legends of Zelda series was originally made for Game Boy in 1993 and then revamped in 2019 for Nintendo Switch. In the game, the game player will face monsters upon monsters on the Koholint Island in order to escape and get back home. The player will have to master moves of horizontal slash, whirling blade, blocking and jump attack in order to even have a chance at defeating the monsters. 

The Legends of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The Legends of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was first released in 1998 with it being the first 3D imagery game in the Zelda series. The graphics in this have not been remastered for the Nintendo Switch but is available on online for game playing. In the game, the gamer plays as Link who is on a quest in the land of Hyrule to stop the evil king of the land, King Ganondorf.  In order to continue through the game, the gamer must learn songs on the ocarina, a musical instrument. The game itself introduced aspects into the game that hadn’t been used before such as target lock systems and much more. 

CTR: Crash Team Racing

CTR or Crash Team Racing was first released in 1999 and it was re-released in 2019. This game has been fully remastered and there have been a few added extras for added fun. Everything that one may remember from the original such as timed trials, cups, battle mode and more have remained. There have even been some new non-micro transaction skins added. The more wumpa coins that you earn for winning races, the more skins, karts, and characters that will be available to you. This racing game will take you back to your childhood with all of the different activities that are throughout the game and different types of gameplays that are available. The great part about this game is that it can be played solo or up to four people. During the races, there are mystery boxes that you can crash into to get offensive and defensive weapons to use against your racemates on the track. This game takes skill and strategy to get through the track and win the race. However, it’s pretty easy to get back into the groove of the game play from childhood or get used to driving through the tracks if you never have before. It is best to stay on easy until you have mastered all the tracks. This is a game that all ages and families will be able to enjoy together while having a bit of competitive fun!

Crash Bandicoot

Crash Bandicoot was first released in 1996 for the PlayStation one exclusively and then re-released as a trilogy on Nintendo Switch in 2017. This trilogy included Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. These games have been fully remastered and include all the favorites from childhood. In these games, the player plays as Crash spins, wumps, jumps to get through the epic challenges and defeat the obstacles put in from of him throughout the game. 

Spyro

The original Spyro game was first released in 1998 and re-released as Spyro Reignited trilogy in 2018. This trilogy includes the first 3 Spyro games and was completely remastered. The first game, Spyro: The Dragon, the player is fighting through levels to release the dragons that Gnasty Gnorc has frozen into statues in the 6 home worlds. Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage is where the player is to fight the evil sorcerer, Ripto, in the land of Avalar in order to bring peace to the land. The last game, Spyro: Year of the Dragon, the player helps to rescue all of the stolen eggs while defeating the evil sorcerer and the Rhynocs.
