The game was only revealed around six months ago, so it\u2019s likely that developer Pieces Interactive is hard at work on making the game right now. On <\/span>Steam<\/span><\/a>, the <\/span>Alone in the Dark <\/span><\/i>release date is merely listed as \u201ccoming soon\u201d, so it might be a while until we get more concrete information about when we can expect this one to arrive. Hopefully, it won\u2019t languish in development hell, because there\u2019s a real survival horror revival underway right now, and <\/span>Alone in the Dark <\/span><\/i>would be foolish to miss it.<\/span><\/p>\n

When we do eventually get an <\/span>Alone in the Dark <\/span><\/i>release date, you will, as you might expect, be able to play it on modern platforms. It\u2019s coming to next-gen consoles – i.e. PS5 and Xbox Series X\/S – and PC. Unfortunately, right now, we don\u2019t know if the game is going to arrive on Xbox One and PS4. By the look of the visuals, which are pretty impressive, it\u2019s entirely possible the game will skip last-gen consoles entirely, which would be a shame but wouldn\u2019t be unexpected. Expect tense and frenetic combat, as well as scarce resources, plenty of backtracking, and lots of obscure puzzling. Hey, that\u2019s what we love about the genre, right? Here are just some of the features you can expect from <\/span>Alone in the Dark<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

• A reimagined version of a 90s classic. <\/b>Pieces Interactive is calling this version of <\/span>Alone in the Dark <\/span><\/i>a reimagining rather than a reboot, so you can expect a return to the basic plot outline of the original game. It\u2019ll also be a \u201clove letter\u201d to the original, although we\u2019re betting that this game will likely supplant the original in many people\u2019s minds, especially given how the original <\/span>Alone in the Dark <\/span><\/i>has aged.<\/span><\/li>\n
• A psychological horror trip. <\/b>Alone in the Dark <\/span><\/i>isn\u2019t just the progenitor of survival horror; it\u2019s also arguably one of the founding fathers of psychological horror, which can be seen today in games like <\/span>Silent Hill <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>The Medium<\/span><\/i>. As such, you can expect <\/span>Alone in the Dark <\/span><\/i>to straddle the divide between classic monster-oriented survival horror and more trippy psychological horror.<\/span><\/li>\n
• A \u201cdoom jazz\u201d soundtrack. <\/b>If you\u2019re not familiar with doom jazz, it\u2019s a genre that mixes the dark ambience of noir film scores with the freeform interpretative qualities of jazz. • Tense combat and resource management. <\/b>As a classic survival horror game, <\/span>Alone in the Dark <\/span><\/i>will emphasise tension and fear over action-packed thrills. Hedberg has worked on the <\/span>Amnesia <\/span><\/i>franchise, as well as sci-fi tale <\/span>SOMA<\/span><\/i>, so he knows what he\u2019s doing in terms of horror. Since bringing in an external writer worked so well for <\/span>Resident Evil 7<\/span><\/i>, we can but hope that this classic survival horror franchise benefits from Hedberg\u2019s expertise and his knowledge when it comes to telling scary stories.
