Top 6 Movies Releasing in Theatres This Year

Movies releasing in theatres – in just one and half years the statement has become a melody to the ears of cinephiles. The pandemic struck the entertainment industry before anyone else, forcing theatres to shut their doors. We have seen a release here and there but the limited theatrical releases brought back nothing but the ire of the pandemic.

So finally halfway through 2021, we’re seeing life going back to normal. Along with it, the theatres are welcoming people back. This is like a rebound year for the entertainment industry, making the big-budget spectacles all the more special. So if you’re planning to go back to the theatres this year, here are 5 big movie releases you should know about.

1. Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings

We’re kicking off the list with Marvel Studio’s Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings. It is the first MCU movie featuring an Asian cast in prominent roles. Shang-Chi is a martial arts master with impeccable hand-to-hand combat skills. The teasers and trailers have shown that the movie will focus on the real Mandarin and the ten rings. We also got a glimpse of Wong Abomination, a villain we last saw in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. From the looks of it, the movie is going to be an action-packed Marvel extravaganza

Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings is led by a stellar cast including Simu Li,

Tony Chiu-Wai Leung, Michelle Yeoh, and Awkwafina. The movie will hit theatres on September 3, 2021.

2. The Suicide Squad

A soft reboot or a sequel – call what you may but James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is definitely one of the most exciting movies releasing in theatres this year. The Suicide Squad retains the big attractions such as Harley Quinn and Amanda Waller and adds a host of new and vibrant characters to the mix. The trailer indicates a fun and refreshing upgrade over the original movie and the star power only makes the story more compelling.

We have Idris Elba’s Bloodsport and John Cena’s Peacemaker doing heavy damage around the city and it will be fun to see whether the ragtag group of expendable criminals can pull off a surprise over Waller. The Suicide Squad releases in theatres on August 5, 2021.

3. No Time To Die

Daniel Craig’s last rodeo as agent 007 is amidst a long spell of delay. And with each day, the anticipation grows. No Time To Die marks the 25th Bond movie and it’s the perfect way to give a sendoff to Craig who has been carrying the franchise for almost fifteen years now.

Just like Dune, No Time To Die has been a victim of the pandemic. Originally slated for a 2020 release, the movie has already given us teasers and trailers. It seems to amp up the action sequences and dramatic tensions over previous films and we can’t wait for October 8 to see it in the theatre.

4. Dune

Dune was made for the big screen and that’s how you shall enjoy it. Denis Villeneuve’s epic has not only a rich history behind it but also a grand cast and jaw-dropping visuals to carry it forward. Frank Herbert’s sci-fi milestone will see another go at adaptations as Villeneuve creates a grand world of deserts, deaths, and destruction. From

Timothée Chalamet, Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem to Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, and Josh Brolin, Dune is indeed set up to be a spectacle.

David Lynch couldn’t do it. Can Villeneuve do it? Watch it on October 22, 2021, to know.

5. Eternals

Just like Shang-Chi, Marvel will introduce another set of superheroes to its cinematic universe. The Eternals are a group of ancient beings with almost god-like powers. They were created by the Celestials and have been at war against Deviants for centuries.

The movie is led by Richard Madden, Kit Harrington, Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani, and Angelina Jolie. Star power aside, it’s the director who’s the most exciting. Chloé Zhao, the academy award-winning director of Nomadland seems to have created a scenic world of Eternals that’s replete with grand storytelling. The Eternals will grace theatres on November 5, 2021.

6. Spider-Man: No Way Home

We’re rounding off the list with another Marvel superhero flick, Spider-Man: No Way Home. This the third spider-man film in the MCU and it sure looks to be a blockbuster already. Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon return to portray the high school teenagers going through their usual life, only to be disturbed by the fact that one of them is Peter Parker, the friendly neighborhood superhero.

What makes Spider-Man: No Way Home such an interesting movie is that it will open up the multiverse in the MCU, allowing past Peter Parkers and villains to appear in it. If done right, it can well be the live-action Spiderverse movie. It will come out in theatres on December 17, 2021.

So these are some of the most exciting movies releasing in theatres this year. Apart from these, we’re equally hyped for Jungle Cruise featuring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, Free Guy featuring Ryan Reynolds, and The Matrix 4, being led by Keanu Reeves.

If you’re really excited about visiting theatres right away, Black Widow will give you a bang for the buck.
